MOVIE:
This is the best movie I've seen in a very long time. It is SO much better than the regular old romantic comedy. I read in a review somewhere that it's suspenseful, but not the cheap suspense of running to the airport or deciding not to get married of most romantic comedies. That is exactly how I felt while watching this movie. I had butterflies in my stomach for most of it.
This movie is so realistic. Most love stories are so hokey, but this movie is so real and amazing. I don't want to say too much, because I believe that by just saying, "Yeah, it was good," rather than gushing about it, people will enjoy it more. I might be too late for that, but "It was pretty good. You should see it."
And if it's only to look at Zooey Deschanel's adorableness, it would be worth it. I'm not ashamed to say that the day after I saw this I wore a blue shirt and a ribbon in my hair.
BOOK:
Chances are, I've already told you to read this book, or you heard about it somewhere else. I read it like 3 years ago and I LOVED it. I've been re-reading it the last few weeks, and remembering how much I like it.
I was first introduced to this book when my cousin Paul received it for Christmas a few years back. I was curious about it, so he told me about it, handed it to me and told me to read a chapter or two, and that really got me. I went out and bought it.
The book is about cadavers and their many scientific contributions. That sounds like it might be kind of gross, and at times it can make you a little queasy, but overall it's just plain fascinating. And somehow, Mary Roach maintains an amazing balance between humor and respect when discussing such an sensitive topic. Seriously, it's really funny. I laugh out loud while reading this book.
It's one of those books that just filled me with new knowledge and a new outlook. I knew hardly anything about cadavers previous to this, except their use in college anatomy labs. You'd be surprised how many things they can be used for.
It is incredible. Go find it and read it. And if you do, please tell me what you thought. We'll have a book club about it.
So yes. I would put 500 Days of Summer in my top 10 favorite movies list, and same goes for Stiff with favorite books. Please let me know what you think if you've already seen/read them, or if you do in the future.
But wait until next weekend to see that movie/read that book, ok?
This weekend we all have more important things to fill our minds with. Happy Conference!
