Macey's

On September 22, 2006, the evenings were starting to get chilly, as they are now. That evening I wore my yellow pea coat with my pretty green scarf. My hair was in pigtails, for some reason.

I had just started dating a boy a few weeks before. We'd held hands but never kissed. We went on a long walk all around our apartment complex, up by the roundabout that was close by, and back to my apartment porch. All through the walk I knew he would kiss me if I would let him, but I was just too shy. Every time our eyes met in a meaningful way, I turned my head.

It was getting very late, I think it was about 1:30 am. I remembered that I had to go to the grocery store for something, so we jumped in my Jeep Cherokee and went to Macey's.

Macey's at night is one of my favorite things. I love how hardly anyone is there, save some fellow BYU students, I love how they section off areas with cardboard or plastic to mop, I love watching everybody unpack stuff, I love how there's only one cashier and you feel like it's your own personal shopping experience.

This cute boy and I wandered around the store, stopping every now and then to give each big hugs and be all flirty. At the end of the pet food aisle, of all places, I spotted some toy model cars and pointed them out to him. We went to investigate. We looked at the cars, then gave each other a big hug. Then we pulled away and looked at each other. I looked at him without any fear.

So he went for it. He kissed me good, right there in the pet food aisle at Macey's. It was amazing. We giggled, because we were excited. And we giggled because we had just had our first kiss at a grocery store.

We often shop for groceries at Macey's now, and occasionally we take a little visit down the pet food aisle and give each other a little kiss to commemorate the occasion.

Yesterday was 3 years since that day. I can't believe how fast it's gone. And I'm glad we still like to kiss.
