And now my house smells lovely

As many of you know (and if you don't, you should) my birthday is 2 weeks before Christmas. This makes it reasonable for me to say things like, "Mom, do you think for my birthday this year from you and dad I could get a Christmas tree and decorations?" I asked for such a gift because Christopher and I don't have a lot of extra dough to buy things like a tree and decorations. I know what you're thinking--Erin, that is so practical! Usually you want gloves from Anthropologie and things like that! I know, I know, I'm growing up a lot.

So last Saturday, Chris and I met my parents at Baum's Christmas tree lot. I like Baum's because it is near my house. Also because we went there for our tree some years when I was little, before the fake tree was purchased.

We shopped around quite a bit.

We were very serious about this decision, because after all, it would be in our living room for more than a month. A Christmas tree becomes part of the house.
(As you Provonians know, it was not cold last Saturday. It was like 45 degrees. But I felt to honor the occasion properly I should bundle up.)

And then we saw it. The fullest, most beautiful Christmas tree under 8 feet I had ever seen. I hugged it I was so excited. I knew for sure it was the one. We took some pics to commemorate the occasion.
Unfortunately, upon turning it around, we discovered that all of the branches from this tree had apparently been moved to one side. The back was horrendous. It looked like the tree had been cut in half. I will forever be sorry that I did not take a picture of the back side, but trust me. I think the reason there are no pictures is because I was laughing too much. It was ridiculous.

However, we found another tree that was also beautiful and I hugged it too, so it would know how much I loved it.
We lugged it home, and I felt the need to again be pictured with the newest member of our family.
Then Chris had to go to work and I had to go to Salt Lake with my parents to watch my brother Ben play in a basketball game in which the best team in the league beat his team (which is the second best in the league, mind you) 28-73. It was amazing. One kid was at least 7 feet tall. And in "6th grade." We think he might be Dominican.

Chris didn't get off work until midnight, and even though it was late when he got home, guess what we did?

Did you guess decorate the tree while watching The Santa Clause 3 because it was the first holiday movie we found that we could watch online for free on Netflix? You are right!
It was very fun.
And I think the tree looks BEAUTIFUL.

Oh, and in an ironic twist of fate, my parents loved Baum's Christmas tree lot so much they decided to get a real tree too. For the first time in 11 years. And for the first time in 11 years, I don't live at home for Christmas. And every year for those 11 years I have said, "Boy, I wish we had a real tree." CRAZY, you know what I'm sayin?

Yes, I completely understand the fake Christmas tree thing. My family always had a fake tree until one year they decided that our little fake friend looked ridiculous. So, the invested in the real thing. However, they bought it at a grocery store...not very authentic at all! But, I was proud of them for buying the real deal. But great things can't last. A few days after Christmas they found a pre-lit fake tree for like $25. There has never been another real tree in my family's home since then. I guess I can't REALLY blame them...lights are a pain.

you're such a tree hugger.

my family has always always always had a real trea purchased from the beloved baums tree lot (front yard.) James and I, however, have realized that we cannot keep plants alive no matter how hard we try. So we purchased, for 78 bucks, a fake tree from wal mart that i really do love. i sit and stare at it for at least 20 minutes everyday. it used to be more, but i will confess our tree has already been up for a month.

I love your tree in your cute christmasy house! And I love that you bundled up to go pick it out because that is something that I would do and that is why we are friends!

Lovely tree! I love that you bundled up in honor of the occasion.

I tried to take Monte to pick out a tree just for fun...even though we couldn't get one because we wouldn't have anywhere to put it. But of course Baum's was closed right when I wanted to go. Next year, next year. Or maybe next week.

your face in the 3rd picture is exactly how i remember you from our times in P-town. why are you so good? and by the way, you are such a cutie in your scarf!

p.s. i agree with the fake tree thing...growing up we had both. a real one with all our family ornaments and then a ginormous fake one that my decorated with all sorts of amazing bling-bling and outrageous ornaments. right now alfredo and i have a tiny fake one because we are poor and i don't know where to find real christmas trees in hawaii. (but i know they do have them)
