When I was a wee lass, one of my favorite things was my mom's apple peeler/corer/make the apple spiral gadget. I loved it for many reasons. One was because if it was out, that usually meant my mom was making apple crisp, which is amazing and delicious.
But I also loved the magic of the machine. I loved clamping it onto the cutting board, and it always amazed how fast it simultaneously peeled the apple and cut it into a spiral. And for some reason it just makes apples taste better. Eating a whole apple is good. Eating apple slices is even better. But eating an apple that has been spiraled by the peeler is the ultimate apple-eating experience.
Several weeks ago Chris and I utilized one of our wedding gift cards and bought one for ourselves. It's a little different from my mom's, it suctions to the counter instead of clamping, which is convenient. For lunch today we cored/peeled/spiraled a few apples and ate them, and they were magic. Just like I remembered.
I just wanted to spread the joy of this fantastic little gadget.

WE HAD ONE OF THESE GROWING UP! (and then I broke it... it was old) Actually, whenever friends would come over some of them would request eating spiral apples. I love that thing. and yes, they do taste better when they are cut up like this. You are so lucky Erin. I didn't know they even made these anymore.
We also had one when we were little. It clamped on to the side of the counter, and we would spiral peel our apples. We usually only used it when my mom was canning apple sauce. But I loved that thing!
I love those!! My uncle Brad gives those as wedding gifts every time someone gets married, and it is one that we use a lot!!
We had one too! Clearly a lot of people did...maybe it's a Mormon thing. But I prefer to think of it as an "awesome people thing."
It honestly does taste better in a spiral. Who knows why? It just does. And now you made me want one real bad.
I think I would eat a lot more apples if I would one of my own apple spiral-ers.
um so I definitely agree with the deliciousness! But we got an electric one that also works on potatoes....amazing!
I think we have the same one as you...bed bath and beyond? Love it. Make apple empenadas. You will be glad you did.
