Did I miss something, or isn't child obesity in America sort of a problem? And isn't the amount of TV watching kids do related to that problem? I guess I just don't see how kids sitting around watching hours and hours of Hannah Montana and Zoey 101 is going to help them have good body image. More body to lug around, perhaps. But better self-esteem? . . . . I'm not too sold on that.
In fact, I'm thinking that by watching those two shows in particular (which are two they mentioned in the article), that the most likely results will be the purchase of a blond wig and thinking it's not really that big of a deal to have a baby at the age of 17.
But who knows? Perhaps there really are little girls everywhere just bursting with self-esteem because of Miley Cyrus. And her fat friends, of course.

OK. So after I wrote all that, I went in search of pictures of the casts of Zoey 101 and Hannah Montana. And do you know what I found, not that I'm very surprised? Skinny girls. Zoey 101 does have some chub in the boys, but that's about it. I'm sure Jamie Lynn packed on some weight in the last nine or ten months, but I think that was less because she felt comfortable with her body image and more because she was prego.
But this is just me. What does everyone else think about this? Read the study and see what you think.

I think little kids would not have to struggle with obesity if they got off the couch and went outside and caught bugs and had leaf races in the gutters like the "old times." (aka in our generation) T.V. is ruining children I tell ya!
I love the Bungalow houses, that is what we were are going to build our first house as. Adam lived in Chicago for awhile and that is all they have there, and he loves them. Check out that website!!
I saw that article and was aghast like you! I laughed out loud, I was embarrassed for someone having done such a pointless study and how to make fat kids feel good about being fat. I'll tell you what, make a fat kid feel good by taking them for a walk.
Totally agree with everything you said. Why should kids base their self esteem off of the self-esteem and looks of fictional TV characters? We live in such a bizarre world.
Hey there Erin! So, I just discovered your blog tonight. I don't know how I have been missing out on this little nugget of joy. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know that your blog about how you would pretend to lock your bike up made me laugh a whole heap. It reminded me of this one time when I pushed the vacuum around the carpet for the "just vacuumed" lines instead of plugging it in and turning it on. I love how our brains work sometimes!
