Things I loved about this morning

I woke up at 6:30 and DID NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP. This is huge. Nearly every morning I get up and say, "Bye Chris!" then go back to sleep until 6:55 at the earliest, or 7:20 at the latest. I leave the house at 7:30. So this means I had time to take a leisurely shower, take time to pick out an outfit, actually dry my hair all the way, and put on makeup. It was pretty nice.

My walking to work outfit. It's cold, because you know, it's winter, so I bundle up to walk to work. However, today it was only 32 degrees when I left the house! So warm! So today I didn't wear my coat. But I did look down and laugh at myself as I walked. Here's what I was wearing, from head to toe: A pair of headphones that look like I bought them from a flight attendant to watch the in-flight movie, a grey scarf, a powder blue fleece jacket, turquoise leather gloves that look like I borrowed them from Willy Wonka, a bright red full skirt I got at DI and can't zip up all the way (so I need to cover it with a cardigan in the back), sky blue stretch pants that used to be my mom's pajamas but somehow I've commandeered them to be used to keep me warm while being outside in the winter, black socks over the pants, and my running shoes. Oh, and a backpack. So I looked WAY awesome.

IT WAS 32 DEGREES WHEN I LEFT THE HOUSE! Do you have any idea what this means? I will give you a clue--so many good things. It means Spring is almost here, and it means that when I walked out of my house I didn't feel like I was getting slapped in the face, and when I got to work I wasn't freezing and sweating and the same time. It was so wonderful. I'm getting excited for lunchtime, I may just take a little walk around the building, it's supposed to be up around 50 by then. YES!

The songs that came up on my ipod--Marching Bands of Manhattan, and You Belong to Me, and Feeling No Pain, and Return of the King. Such good hair drying/walking in the morning tunes. Sometimes my ipod just GETS me, you know? Like when I turned it on and got in the shower, and Love Thing came up. I KNOW. And speaking of the Spice Girls, last weekend I was in the car and Wannabe came on, and I have never been so happy. I actually texted Char that I had not been that excited since 1997. Anyway, I was so thrilled about the Spice Girls re-entering my life via the radio that when I got home I searched for Spice World on Netflix to watch instantly, and wouldn't you know it? They have it! So Chris and I watched Spice World and I loved it.

There were no dead deer on the side of the road. I tell you what, University Avenue is like a death trap for those guys. It's so sad.

Timpanogos. Then again, Timp is usually the best part of my morning. It is just such a beautiful mountain. I see it every single day, and have seen it every day for my whole life, except when I've been out of town, and it is still so striking to me. Awhile ago I was in Salt Lake and looked around and realized that valley doesn't have as beautiful mountains as Utah Valley does. Timp and Cascade and even Y Mountain are so pretty. And Nebo, jeez. I don't know what it is. Olympus just doesn't do it for me for whatever reason.

Listening to this This American Life episode. 15 year old Tarot card readings on a commuter train! Mormon Missionaries on the Upper West Side! Good stuff.

My outfit that was under the bundling. White cardigan and tshirt, pink necklace, aforementioned full bright red skirt from DI (did I mention it has pockets? Don't be jealous), black tights, and zebra shoes. I'm into it. I don't usually wear red, but you know, Valentine's Day. So I wore red AND pink. I know. Super cute.

So anyway, those are all of the things I loved about my morning. And I loved them so much I had to write them down and remember them.

Also, Happy Valentine's Day.

Ha! Willy Wonka. Good one. I love this list of things. I'm also glad you listened to that episode about the missionaries. It wasn't the most exciting story, but it made me feel good and they didn't make the missionaries out to be idiots.
