Things that happened today

(I am not complaining about things, nor do I think these things are particularly funny or interesting. I've just noticed that several out of the ordinary things have happened today, and I wanted to take note. Perhaps it's all a sign of something.)

I did not wear a coat to work. Because yesterday was sunny and above 40 degrees, and even at night it was above 30. When I left the house it was probably about 30, which sounds cold any other time, but for the past couple weeks it felt like shorts weather.

It started snowing. Pretty hard. The last time I got up and looked out the window, it looked like a couple of inches. Oh well. I don't mind the snow, but that 40 degree business was pretty great. At least now everything will look pretty. I think the real reason people get Seasonal Affective Disorder (or Seasonal Affective Laziness) is from that crusty snow sitting on top of dead grass that used to be green but now is grey. I hate that.

I walked out to the dumpster behind our building, and on my way back I saw 3 dead birds on the ground. One looked like maybe a cat had found it. The other 2 were perfectly whole still, but they were laying on the ground, dead. They must have flown into the window. I got teary eyed. I don't know what should happen to them. I assume the yard crew people will find them and throw them away. But that's really sad. They were all Cedar Waxwings, such a beautiful bird (and Chris's favorite). Maybe he and I can come back tonight and bury them.

One of the guys in our office got a package in the mail that had about 30 stamps on it. It was amazing. There was an entire sheet of 15 cent stamps, and one 35 cent stamp that said "Olympics 84" on it. I have never seen so many stamps on something. And especially not recently.

A highlighter exploded all over my hands. I was holding it and playing with the cap (I love hearing the click of something snapping into place, like highlighter lids), and all of a sudden my hand felt wet. So I looked down and sure enough, it was like I'd had a mishap with self tanner that was actually neon yellow. Washing my hands was the best, the water in the sink was all fluorescent as I rinsed the ink off.

(I wrote all of this before lunch yesterday. I waited the rest of the day to see if anything else out of the ordinary took place, and it never came. The afternoon and evening proceeded as usual. Hmm.)

Those are pretty birds. Maybe there is a bird epidemic starting. A while ago I heard on the news that in Holland or something thousands of birds just dropped out of the sky, dead. Then I think something similar happened in the U.S. in the same week. I'm obviously not very clear on my facts, but something of the sort did happen.
