Bruges Waffles and Frites

As you all know, I went to Europe a couple of summers back and loved it more than life. One of my favorite places was Bruges, Belgium. Besides the canals and medieval buildigns, one of the things I loved most about Bruges was the waffles.

My goodness, the waffles! We went there every single day, sometimes more than once. I've never tasted anything so delicious.

A close second to the waffles were the frites (french fries). They were sold at a little stand right in the main square, around the corner from where we rented bikes. There was this sauce that I loved, the guy who sold them told me to get it. Delicious.

So when I was in Salt Lake a few months ago and saw a little shop by Pioneer Park called Bruges Waffles and Frites, I knew I HAD to go.

And last Saturday, we did. It definitely fulfilled my expectations, the waffles and the frites were very delicious. (The frites were too salty, I must say, but whatevs.)

Even more amazing than the food though, was what happened when we ordered. Chris was a hungry boy, having just finished 5 hours of PCAT, so he ordered the large frites. The kid at the counter raised his eyebrows and said, "Are you sure? It's really big." Chris said he was sure, and when they got there we saw what I hoped would be the case:

He ate a surprising amount of them. True, some were fed to the seagulls in Pioneer Park (one of them was like an acrobat, man), but in the end they were finished.
Go check it out. 336 West Broadway (300 South) in Salt Lake.

So I don't got on here too often but I'm bored and in London so I'm reading past blogs. You may not even see this comment but I just have to say thanks for the shout out for Belgium!! The waffles and frites are absolutely incredible! The waffles are not like the glorified pancake american ones but like candy and seriously melt in your mouth. (I just found a great place in London) The frites are better than anything in the US, and the secret is they fry them twice, once at a low temp to cook the inside, then again at a higher temp. I'm very sad I never got to try this place before we moved!!! I'm really hungry now too.....
